8 tips for picking vendors

You have your venue, then your makeup magicians, your cake connoisseurs, and your dashing DJ. All of these people need to be hand picked by you to match your vision and budget. So how do you choose?  Here are 8 tips for how to select the dream team for your wedding.

1. Know your budget

You and your potential vendor should know exactly what you want to spend. Having a solid number means the vendor can give you an accurate picture of there services as well.

2. book your venue first

The most important thing to book is your venue. Once you have a location (and date), you can give a clear picture to your other vendors. Photographers need to know the layout for shots, caterers need to know how far they need to go, the list goes on.

3. check reviews

Yelp, Google, and Facebook are your new best friend.  Read up on all the good (and bad) feedback to see if the vendors you want will be the right fit.

4. be specific about what you want

Will your wedding include a lush array of flowers? Or dreaming of a white winter wonderland? Whatever it is that peaks your interest, you need to know it and own it. Be specific about your vision with your vendors, so there is no confusion or miscommunication.

5. narrow down your options

As fun as it sounds to have six bridal shop appointments in one day, you will get overwhelmed (we've seen it happen.) Try to only focus on your top two or three choices for vendors and find which is the best. You can always look into more if those don't work out.

6. Be prepared for the unexpected

We wish very much that all of our brides have perfect weddings, but there is always a chance something could go wrong. Whether your preferred makeup artist isn't available, or your flowers aren't in season, be prepared for compromise. Keep an open mind and don't be too stressed if you need to change some things.

7. know the cancellation policies

If someone is sick, how will the vendor compensate? If the cake truck gets struck by lighting, what are the options? Be prepared for every possible outcome and ensure your chosen vendor has the back up plan to match.

8. book early

Once all of these points have been considered- Just Do It! Book your vendor as early as possible to ensure they don't get snatched up by another bride.
